A note from the designer of this blog
It has been a while since I've updated this blog. The owners of MonteBello B&B Inn, Daphne and Jaime Reyes, have kindly given me permission to update people on what I've been doing. This past November, I left for India to travel and go on a Buddhist pilgrimage. The pilgrimage started on December 1 and finished on December 19. Our group visited the four main sites in the Buddha's life, which in chronological order are as follows: Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar. We also visited two other important places: Vulture's Peak and Nalanda University.
I'll explain very briefly why these places are important. First, Lumbini is actually located in southern Nepal and it is where the Buddha was born. Bodh Gaya is where he attained enlightenment. Sarnath is where he gave the first Buddhist teachings. Finally, Kushinagar is where he died. Vulture's Peak is where he gave the third round of teachings and Nalanda University is where there was a very large Buddhist university.
After the pilgrimage was finished, I went on to Dharamsala in northern India, where I visited the Norbulingka Institute. I was there toward the end of December and then I went on to see textiles in Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan in western India. I spent New Year's Eve in Pushkar and just after that I went on to Jaipur, which is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. I shopped for gifts in Jaipur, which is famous for jewelry and other arts and crafts. After Jaipur, I went back to New Delhi, which is where I stayed just before the pilgrimage. I was there for three days before flying back home. It was an amazing journey! I'm very glad I had the opportunity to do it.

A wedding at MonteBello B&B Inn
On Saturday, June 5, 2010, we had a most lovely wedding at MonteBello B&B Inn. It was held in the late afternoon and there were about 50 people in attendance. Yes, we had a brief shower at the very beginning that forced us to delay it; however, following the long standing tradition of weddings at MonteBello, the weather cooperated and it turned into a beautiful, partly sunny and cooler afternoon. After the rain on Saturday, the fields surrounding our place are even greener and resemble a waving sea when moved by the perennial wind. Secluded, yet still adjacent to the city, MonteBello is the ideal setting for intimate weddings, family reunions and retreats.Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Travel the new Story County Trail!
On April 23, 2010, MonteBello B&B Inn had an Open House / Ribbon Cutting for the inauguration of the new Story County Trail, an initiative by some Ames area businesses that provide services for tourists in the area.
We put together this trail with our out-of-town visitors in mind. Our aim is not only to provide services that visitors need and request when they come to Ames, but also to offer suggestions for places of interest in the area. People visiting Ames will have helpful information for their travel needs and inspiring suggestions for places to visit in and around Ames. With the Story County Trail, travelers will have the resources to complement their plans and enjoy their stay.
See photos of the event here.
